LG Innotek announces that its wireless charger, which can charge smartphones with 15 watts, will be released this month. The charger uses the Qi standard and is three times as fast as other wireless chargers, according to the manufacturer.

By charging with 15 watts, the wireless charger is just as fast as most USB fast chargers with wire. LG states that a smartphone battery can be charged to half in half an hour, but does not mention which smartphone it is and what capacity it has.

It is striking that the latest top devices from the manufacturer itself, the LG G5 and V20, do not support wireless charging. LG could make covers for the smartphones so that they can be used on Qi chargers. It is not known whether the manufacturer intends to do so.

LG Innotek expects that the wireless fast charging technology will also be applied in furniture and in cars. The charger has a temperature sensor and if the temperature rises above a certain value, charging stops. That should prevent the charger and phone from getting too hot.

Although LG does not state which standard the charger uses, the manufacturer says that the product meets the standard of the Wireless Power Consortium. That consortium manages the Qi standard, which is used in most smartphones that support wireless charging. Most wireless chargers on the market deliver 5 watts, although there are also models with 10 watts. In 2015, the WPC announced that Qi chargers with a capacity of 15 watts would be on the market.

LG Innotek, the innovation department of the manufacturer, does not disclose concrete details about the product and does not mention a price, but states that the wireless fast charger will be on the market this month, including in Europe.
