Apple is said to be in talks with Sharp about supplying OLED screens. Apple would like to use this for a future iPhone. Whether there is actually an agreement would depend on how many OLEDs Sharp can supply.

The rumors come from Bloomberg, which claims to have an anonymous source who has knowledge of the negotiations between the two parties. Bloomberg is usually well aware of such matters. Specifically, it is about that, according to the source, Apple wants to purchase OLED screens from Sharp for a future iPhone.

It is not clear whether the OLED screens are intended for use in the next new iPhone. Bloomberg does speak of the ‘next generation’ iPhone. There are also longer rumors that Apple wants to switch to OLED for its iPhone. Incidentally, Apple already uses OLED for its Apple Watch.

Although talks are underway, it is not yet certain whether it will lead to an agreement. According to Bloomberg, this mainly depends on how many OLED screens can be supplied by Sharp. The company has already indicated that it will invest in the production capacity of OLEDs, although no comment has been made about a possible deal with Apple. LG and Samsung would also become suppliers of OLED screens for iPhones.
