‘Google will come with an Andromeda laptop next year’
Android Police reports based on its own estimation reliable sources that Google wants to release a Pixel laptop in the third quarter of 2017. It would also run the Andromeda operating system, which is a combination of Chrome OS and Android.
The site cites two sources and writes that the project is known internally at Google as ‘Bison’ or by the informal name ‘Pixel 3’. It would be a device with a 12.3″ screen that should support a tablet mode. Android Police also assumes that there will be two different versions, one of which has an Intel m3 processor, 32GB storage and 8GB RAM.A second version would be equipped with an Intel i5 Core processor with 128GB of storage and 16GB of RAM.The entry price should be around 800 dollars, converted about 710 euros.
In addition, the models probably have a fingerprint scanner, two USB-C ports, a connection for a 3.5 mm jack, various sensors, support for a stylus, stereo speakers, four microphones and a battery that should last ten hours. The thickness of the models should also be less than 10mm with a backlit keyboard and a glass trackpad. Android Police does take a hit by stating that it has a lot of confidence in the information from its source, but that the specifications of the laptops can still change drastically.
The Andromeda project would be separate from Google’s attempt to run Android apps on a Chromebook, so the laptop will not be offered as a Chromebook. In addition, Google wants to show several apps for Andromeda by the time the Bison laptops are ready, according to Android Police. That would be the reason that the search giant has not announced a successor to the Chromebook Pixel this year.
Android Police reported Monday that Google is likely to present a merged version of Android and Chrome OS under the name Andromeda at its October 4 event. It would be more of a teaser than a finished product, because the development is not yet finished. The company is also expected to present the Pixel phones, among other things, in addition to a 4k Chromecast and a Wi-Fi router.
