Valve Confirms Steam Deck Will Not Get Exclusives
The Steam Deck handheld will not get any exclusives, Valve confirms. The device must be seen as a PC by players and developers and can therefore also play all games, the company says in a faq.
Valve has updated the developer faq. In it, the company writes that the device does not get any exclusives. “That makes no sense to us. It’s a PC and should play games like a PC,” writes the developer. Valve has always marketed the device as a handheld PC, but had not previously confirmed that there will be no games specifically intended for that. There were rumors about this before, but Valve now debunks them with the updated faq. However, some games may not be compatible with the console.
In the faq, Valve also writes that the Steam Deck is not intended to play VR games, but that it ‘should be technically possible’. Developers can also use 8GB of vram for the gpu, and they can change that per game. In the long run, the company says it wants to release SteamOS as a standalone operating system.
