TorrentHound takes site offline ‘due to declining visits and high costs’

TorrentHound has retired after nine years. The site indexed torrents, just like The Pirate Bay and KickassTorrents. According to the owner it is ‘not worth it anymore’. It is not clear whether legal proceedings are pending against the website.

The site can still be reached, but only shows a list of alternatives. The TorrentHound founder told Torrentfreak that there are several reasons to stop it: “It’s a combination of less traffic, less revenue and higher bills. On top of that were the complaints from anti-piracy organizations, which made it the was no longer worth the effort.” It is unclear whether legal proceedings contributed to the decision, Torrentfreak considers this unlikely.

According to Torrentfreak, the torrent site attracted millions of visitors per month, but could not compete in popularity with KickassTorrents or The Pirate Bay. For example, KickassTorrents’ Alexa rating was 85 and TorrentHound’s was close to 1300.

With the site shutdown, TorrentHound is following in the footsteps of KickassTorrents, which went offline following the arrest of its suspected owner in July. The search engine Torrentz also stopped shortly afterwards and showed a farewell text. The reasons for the decision to shut down the site were not disclosed at the time.
