Epson’s augmented reality glasses will display camera images DJI quadcopter

Epson has announced a partnership with quadcopter maker DJI. One of the first steps that DJI is taking is adapting the DJI GO app to work with Epson’s Moverio BT-300 augmented reality glasses.

The BT-300-ar glasses will be released at the end of 2016. The combination of the glasses with different UAVs and the Osmo handhelds from DJI gives the user the possibility to get camera images from the quadcopters in first-person perspective, Epson writes in a message.

Users of the BT-300 see an HD image of 1280×720 pixels through transparent 0.43 “OLED screens. Because this version of the glasses no longer has a backlight, the glasses are twenty percent lighter than the previous version, the BT-200. As a processor, the BT-300 uses an Atom X5 quad-core and Android as the operating system, and the glasses are also equipped with a five-megapixel camera.

The new version of Epson’s augmented reality glasses will be shown this week in combination with DJI’s quadcopters at the InterDrone conference in Las Vegas in the United States. The combination will soon also be on display at the Photokina in Cologne, at Copter World.

It is not yet known when the glasses will be available in Europe and what the euro prices will be. The glasses are priced at $800 on Epson’s pre-sale site.
