FBI Arrests Two Alleged Crackas With Attitude Members
The FBI has arrested two alleged members of the Crackas with Attitude group. The two, known by the pseudonyms Incursio and D3f4ult, are suspected of hacking government systems and accounts of high-ranking government officials.
The victims are a 22-year-old man, Andrew Boggs, and a 24-year-old man named Justin Liverman, respectively, the Justice Department said in a statement. Between October 2015 and February 2016, the two allegedly collaborated with other members of the group, using social engineering techniques to gain access to government systems and the accounts of government officials and their families, according to Justice. They did this, for example, by pretending to be the victim.
For example, the indictment charges them with impersonating government employees and identity theft, as well as harassing phone calls and computer fraud. The press release of the Ministry of Justice also states that the two have uploaded personal information of the victims to a public website. Three other members of Crackas With Attitude are in the UK, where they are under investigation. An alleged member of the group was arrested by British police in February.
Members of Crackas With Attitude claimed to have access to several accounts of James Clapper, the head of US intelligence. This was announced in January. They also had access to Clapper’s wife’s Yahoo account and forwarded his phone number to a human rights organization. Before that, members of the group were also found to have had access to the AOL email account of CIA chief John Brennan. It later emerged that they had also obtained access to information about detainees and possible terrorist activities.
