Forza Motorsport 6: Apex comes out of beta and gets steering wheel support
Microsoft removes the beta label from the free Windows 10 game Forza Motorsport 6: Apex. Now that the game has been officially released, racing wheels from Logitech and Thrustmaster are also supported. Support for Fanatec steering wheels will follow at the end of September.
Microsoft mentions all steering wheels that are currently supported in an announcement. It concerns commonly used racing wheels from Logitech such as the G25, G27 and G29 and models from Thrustmaster, including the T300 and T500 RS, T150 and the RGT. A total of eleven steering wheels are supported at release.
Microsoft says it is working on support for other steering wheels. In particular, Fanatec products, such as the ClubSport V2 Xbox One Hub and the Fanatec CSR models, are high on the priority list. At the end of September, support should come through updates for both Windows 10 and for the game.
Apex also supports H-shifters in combination with the Logitech handlebars, except for the G29. Support for that will come later. There should also be support for gear levers from other brands in the future, but when is not yet known.
In addition to the addition of racing wheel support, no major changes are known to have been made to Forza Motorsport 6: Apex. It is the first game in the Forza franchise to be playable on PC. It is a stripped-down version of Forza Motorsport 6 for the Xbox One, with 63 cars and six lanes. The game is available to download for free from the Windows Store.
Future Forza games will all be playable on Windows. Forza Horizon 3 is the first new game in the franchise to be released and Microsoft reports that the wheels supported in Apex will also be usable in that game. Forza Horizon 3 will be released on September 27.
