Dell updates Alienware laptops with GTX 10 GPUs and 120Hz display option

Dell has announced new versions of the Alienware 13, 15 and 17. The gaming laptops can all be equipped with a GPU from the GTX 10-series; the 15 and 17 are also available with RX 470. The Alienware 13 will have an OLED screen.

The largest model, the Alienware 17, will be equipped with a Tobii eye tracking controller. Acer uses that same technique in its massive Predator 21X laptop. The hardware can also be used to wake the laptop from sleep mode by looking at it. The cameras can then be used to log in with Windows Hello.

The Alienware 17 can be equipped with up to an Intel Core i7-6820HK at 4.1GHz and up to 32GB DDR4 RAM. GPUs are available in the form of the Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060, 1070 or 1080, you can also opt for an AMD Radeon RX 470. No details have yet been announced about the properties of the screen.

Alienware 17

Dell provides the Alienware 15 with a 15.6 “screen. There will be an option for a full-HD panel with a refresh rate of 120Hz. There will also be a variant with an igzo panel with UHD resolution. It is a relatively thin laptop, but the manufacturer has not yet disclosed the dimensions. The keyboard will have RGB LEDs and the keys will have 2.2 mm travel. The Alienware 15 can also accommodate an i7-6820HK CPU, but the GTX 1080 GPU will not fit in this smaller laptop, a GTX 1070 or 1060, or AMD RX470 can be chosen.

Dell does not yet disclose few specific details about the smallest model, but does say that an OLED screen will be installed in the laptop. The manufacturer also talks about a GPU from the GTX 10-series. According to Dell, the laptop is thinner than its predecessor. The GTX 1070 and 1080 will therefore not fit and the GTX 1060 will probably find its way to the Alienware 13. The housing will have an aluminum top and a carbon fiber frame. Dell has not yet released any images of the new thin gaming laptop.

In the US, it will be possible to order the new Alienware 15 and 17 from September 30. The Alienware 13 will be released in November. When the new Alienware laptops can be ordered in the Benelux and at what prices is not yet known.
