Sony is coming with a 1:1 macro lens for the cameras in the A7 series. The 50mm lens has an f/2.8 aperture that consists of seven rounded blades. The lens weighs 236 grams and is sealed against dust and moisture.

The minimum focusing distance of the SEL50M28 is 16cm, measured from the sensor plane. Photos taken from that distance have a magnification of 1:1. At that magnification, objects are captured at their actual size on the camera sensor.

According to Sony, the lens design uses “extra-low dispersion” ed glass to counteract axial chromatic aberrations. At the time of writing, the manufacturer has not yet released more details about the optical design.

Sony already had a 90mm f/2.8 lens with 1:1 magnification in its range. However, that macro lens is a lot bigger, heavier and more expensive than the new 50 mm macro.
