LG comes with a curved 38″ monitor with a resolution of 3840×1600 pixels – update
LG will show two new curved monitors with an aspect ratio of 21:9 at the IFA in Berlin. It is a 34-inch version with 2560×1080 pixels at a maximum of 144Hz and a 38-inch version with 3840×1600 pixels with a refresh rate of up to 75Hz.
With the two monitors, LG is targeting two different markets; the 34″ monitor with type number 34UC79-B is intended for gamers and the 38″ monitor is made for users who value a wide color gamut. According to LG, the 38UC99-W can display 99 percent of the sRGB gamut.
In addition to the aspect ratio and the curved screen, the similarities between the two monitors can be found in the number of HDMI 2.0 ports, namely two, and the single display port 1.2. Both the response time of 5ms and the static contrast ratio of 1000:1 are identical. Furthermore, both monitors have a 3.5 mm audio jack output, they are adjustable in height and they have a USB hub.
Besides the difference in size, there are some other differences. For example, the 34UC79 has an ah-ips panel with a maximum refresh rate of 144Hz that can display 16.7 million colors. The 38UC99 has an axis IPS panel with a maximum refresh rate of 75Hz. The screen can display 1070 million colors.
The latter variant is also compatible with 100mm supports of the vesa standard and has internal speakers, a pip function and a usb-c connection. Available in white, silver and black, the monitor measures 898mm by 465mm without the base and weighs 9.83kg.
The 34″ monitor lacks the vesa connection, but does have some parts that may be experienced as pleasant for gamers, such as a mouse cable holder, so that the cable stays in the right place. In addition, the black monitor has red color accents. the monitor over AMD’s FreeSync technology.
Update 4:13 PM: LG has announced that the 38UC99 will have a suggested retail price of 1399 euros and that the 34UC79G will be sold for 699 euros. The monitors will be available from October.
