Tokina to make manual focus lenses for Sony FE cameras

A photo of the Tokina Firin 20mm f/2 FE MF has been posted online. The name suggests that the lens manufacturer is coming up with a new series of manual lenses for Sony’s full-frame system cameras.

The photo was published on Japan’s Nokishita blog. Tokina has never released glassware with a Sony FE mount before, but the 20mm f/2.0 with FE designation in the photo shows that such a lens is on the way. The Firin naming seems to indicate a new series and ‘MF’ indicates that it is a manual focus lens.

Tokina makes autofocus lenses for DSLRs from Canon and Nikon, among others. Never before has the company released lenses specifically developed for mirrorless system cameras. More information and specifications of the lens are not yet known. Presumably the official introduction to the Photokina photo fair will follow, which starts on September 20 in Cologne.
