YouTube is rumored to be working on the Backstage feature for its site. In it, well-known YouTube channels can share posts, photos, links and polls with their audience. With this, the site wants to bind YouTube stars and fans more.

Now, many YouTubers use various social media to keep in touch with their subscribers, and YouTube wants it all to happen on that site itself, Venturebeat writes. YouTube also lets channel owners create Backstage videos that are then only visible to subscribers. That should also improve the contact between YouTubers and their audience on the site.

It is not the intention to make Backstage a closed community. It will be possible to share the posts on other social media as well. Backstage would be a next step for the site to develop social functions separately from parent company Google. A few years ago, YouTube came to depend on Google+, the search giant’s hitherto failed social network. Earlier this year, YouTube suddenly presented its own chat function, separate from Google+ and Google’s chat services Hangouts, Allo and Duo.
