Samsung has presented its third phone with Tizen in India. Compared to its predecessor, the budget model includes support for 4G and has an S Bike Mode, which means that users are not disturbed while cycling.

If someone calls the Z2 that is in S Bike Mode, they will be told that the call is not going through. If it is urgent, the caller can press 1 and the cyclist’s phone will still ring. S Bike Mode should therefore ensure that smartphone users cycle more safely.

The Z2 is also a low-end phone, with a 4″ LCD that has a resolution of 800×480 pixels. The storage has a capacity of 8GB, with the slot for the microSD card for solace for those who need more storage space. The RAM has a size of 1GB.The soc provides a quadcore processor with a maximum clock speed of 1.5GHz.Presumably MediaTek produces the soc.

It is the third phone with Tizen. The first, the Z1, appeared last year, followed shortly after by the Z3. Tizen is Samsung’s own operating system and originates from Bada, among others, the system that Samsung developed for its Wave phones from six years ago. In addition to Bada, Tizen also emerged from the efforts of Intel, which first developed Moblin itself and together with Nokia MeeGo, both Linux kernel-based operating systems.

When Nokia stopped developing MeeGo, Samsung took over. The Z1 was the first Tizen device to be released last year, but Samsung limited the release and did not market the device in the Benelux. Tizen has also been the operating system of Samsung’s smart TVs since last year and has been running as the OS of the South Korean manufacturer’s smartwatches for some time, such as the Gear S2.
