Xiaomi announces Redmi Pro smartphone – update

Xiaomi has released a new top model within its line of smartphones: the Redmi Pro. The phone has a 5.5″ OLED screen with 1080p resolution and dual rear cameras for ‘extra depth information’

Xiaomi made the announcement at an event in Beijing. The most expensive version of the phone has 4GB of RAM and a 64-bit MediaTek Helio X25-soc at up to 2.5GHz with ten cores. The whole thing runs on Miui 8 which is based on Android 6.0 Marshmallow.

The rear cameras are the Sony IMX 258 13-megapixel sensor for the photos themselves and a 5-megapixel camera from Samsung for the depth information. The image information is processed by an ImagiQ image processor. The front camera is an unnamed 5-megapixel model.

The housing is made of brushed metal and is available in three different colors: gold, silver and gray. Furthermore, the phone has a fingerprint reader, USB type-c and a 4050mAh battery with the option of fast charging. In addition, the smartphone has a combined ‘hybrid’ dual-SIM slot for micro-SIM and nano-SIM with a micro-SD card.

The different models have either a Helio X20-soc with 3GB ram and 32 or 64GB storage memory or a Helio X25-soc with 4GB ram and 128GB storage memory. The price of the cheapest model is 1499 yuan or about 204 euros. The most expensive version with the Helio X25 soc costs 1999 yuan or about 272 euros. The phones will be available in China from August 6.

Update 13.22: Presumably the phone does not have full 4G support within Europe. According to data GSM Arena has, band 20 for lte is not supported.
