Vodafone customers have again consumed more data on the mobile network in the past three months. In total, it was 9600 terabytes, an increase of almost 32 percent compared to a year ago. The number of mobile customers did decrease.

The growth in data usage comes after two quarters of declining usage at the provider. If growth continues, the 10 petabyte per quarter barrier will be in sight in the second half of 2016. The growth comes despite a declining number of mobile telephony customers. Vodafone now has just over five million mobile customers, down 2.7 percent from last year. However, the provider does have more customers who can now use 4G, Vodafone now has two million of them.

In particular, the number of prepaid customers decreased, by 96,000 to 1.2 million. Compared to the previous quarter, the number of prepaid customers did increase by 18,000. Vodafone now has 3.8 million customers with a subscription, which is also 46,000 connections lower than a year ago, while 17,000 customers left compared to the previous quarter. There was growth at Vodafone Thuis: Vodafone now has 123,000 customers for that service with TV, internet and telephony.

Quarterly sales amounted to 425.9 million euros, a decrease of 2.2 percent. Vodafone cites ‘competitive market conditions and lower roaming costs’ as the reasons.
