Google adds Play Store support for Acer R11 and Chromebook Pixel
Users of the 2015 Acer R11 and Chromebook Pixel can now access the Play Store if they are using the developer version of Chrome OS. So far, there are three Chromebooks on which Android apps can be installed, with more to follow later.
Several owners of the Chromebooks report that they now have access to the Google Play Store, writes 9to5google. Access to the Android app download store is in version 53 of Chrome OS, which is distributed through the Developer Channel.
When Google announced at its I/O conference that Chromebooks would be getting support for the Play Store, the company promised to support three models starting in June. In addition to Acer and Google’s own second version of the Chromebook Pixel, that was the Asus Chromebook Flip. It received the update in June, but only now does the Play Store also work in combination with the Acer R11 and the second version of the Chromebook Pixel.
From September, the feature will be in the stable version of Chrome OS. The Play Store should come to dozens of different models before the end of the year.
