Microsoft Releases First UWP App for Xbox One Preview Members
Microsoft has released the first Universal Windows Platform or UWP app for 20,000 Xbox Preview members with enough points. It is a Bluray player app that hardly differs in appearance from the existing one. Other Preview members won’t get the app until later.
Microsoft made the announcement on the Xbox Preview Members’ Forum, but Winbeta posted the entire post on its blog. Preview members with sufficient Preview Award Points will not receive the app all at once, but ‘sometime within 24 hours’.
Although the app is similar in appearance to the old Bluray app, it is mainly about the underlying code. The Preview members are therefore asked to report any unexpected behavior of the UWP app.
It is not yet clear when more apps based on the UWP will appear on the Xbox One. However, Hulu, Nascar and Nickelodeon, among others, are working on UWP apps for the Xbox, NeoWin writes.
Microsoft has been working on the Universal Windows Platform for some time and that has been taking shape more and more since the release of Windows 10. The different Windows versions have to behave more and more as one platform. Developers can thus limit themselves to one codebase and easily release apps on different systems.
