Asus shows a number of new monitors on the Computex. The company shows the PG258Q, a full-HD monitor with a refresh rate of 240Hz. Asus will also demonstrate a 32″ monitor with 5k resolution. The new screens will probably work with displayport 1.3 connections.

During the Asus ROG event, the brand announced on Monday that a 180Hz monitor is on the way: the PG248Q. Tuesday it appears that Asus also has a 240Hz screen in store. The PG258Q, which can be seen on the show floor in Taiwan, is a 24.5″ monitor with a resolution of 1920×1080 pixels and an Nvidia G-Sync module. Asus has not yet disclosed many technical details. Because the manufacturer speaks of a response time of 1ms, it is almost certain that this is a monitor with a tn panel. The screen is executed in a color scheme with titanium and copper-like tones, according to Asus. The base has LEDs for a light effect on the desk.

Asus is also demonstrating a number of monitors in the ProArt series. The most notable model is the ProArt 5K UHD, a 32″ monitor with a resolution of 5120×2880 pixels. According to Asus, the panel displays 95 percent of the dci-p3 color space. Asus also shows a ProArt PA27AQ, a 27″ monitor with resolution of 2560×1440 pixels. Thin screen bezels should make this model suitable for multi-monitor setups.

The 5k screen can be connected with a single displayport cable. Although Asus doesn’t mention it specifically, it probably means it uses displayport 1.3 or 1.4. Until now, all 5k monitors have worked with the displayport 1.2 standard, which doesn’t provide enough bandwidth for the high resolution coupled with a 60Hz refresh rate. Therefore, two displayport 1.2 connections must be used to drive a 5k screen.

To use displayport 1.3 or 1.4, both the monitor and video card used must support the standard. The 240Hz screen is also a model that only works optimally with displayport 1.3 and 1.4, because such a refresh rate requires more bandwidth than displayport 1.2 can offer. Nvidia has made its new GeForce GTX 1000 graphics cards compatible with the new standards, and AMD previously announced that the new graphics cards the company is launching this year will also support DisplayPort 1.3. Displayport 1.4 support also appears to be present.

Asus also shows a number of Designo monitors, where the design is an important starting point. The Designo Curve MX34VQ has a 34″ panel with a resolution of 3440×1440 pixels. The curvature is 1800R. A Qi charger is incorporated in the base, so that smartphones that support the wireless charging technology can be charged.

The Designo MX27UC is a 4k monitor with 3840×2160 pixels and a USB-C connection with USB 3.1 speed. The USB-C port can be used for data transfer, or serve as an alternative displayport connection. The screen will have an IPS panel and bezels of 1.25 cm wide.

Asus has not yet announced prices of the new monitors and it is not yet clear when they will hit the market.
