MSI shows backpack PC with GeForce GTX 980 for VR

MSI has previewed the products it will unveil at the Computex trade show next week. Among the systems is a ‘Backpack PC’ with Core i7 and GTX 980, which a user can carry on his back. In addition, new laptops are coming.

The only details about the Backpack PC that MSI is releasing for now is that the portable system will include an Intel Core i7 and GTX 980. The PC should put an end to the limited freedom of movement and annoying cables when using the Oculus Rift or HTC Vive, without sacrificing performance, according to MSI. The idea is not entirely new: Zotac recently showed a similar solution for mobile VR, although it involved a PC that has to be put in a backpack.

MSI also gives a look at new gaming laptops: the GT83 and GT73 Titan SLI. The GT83 Titan SLI is equipped with two GTX 980 cards, which are the GM204 GPU with 2048 cores, which Nvidia has made suitable for use in laptops. The GT73 gets two mobile GTX 980M cards. This concerns the laptop card with GM204 GPU with 1536 activated cores. Optionally, MSI equips this laptop with a single GTX 980. It is not known which CPUs the laptops will get, but they may bear the ‘VR Ready’ logo and can control 4k setups with three monitors.

Finally, MSI unveils the GS63 Stealth Pro. This is a thin laptop with Core i7-6700HQ and GeForce GTX 970M. According to the manufacturer, a cooling system with five heat pipes and custom Whirlwind Blade fans should ensure quiet operation.

The other products that MSI is putting forward in the pre-announcement for the Computex have already been announced earlier.
