Google stops selling media player Nexus Player

Google has stopped selling the Nexus Player, the media player Asus made for the search giant. Last week, the Chinese manufacturer Xiaomi, in collaboration with Google, already presented a media player that may serve as a successor to the device.

According to Google, millions of copies of the Nexus Player have been activated, The Verge writes. The company does not say how much the search giant has delivered exactly. The Nexus Player is a media player that runs on Android TV and Google supplied it with a remote control with microphone for voice commands.

Google had a quad-core Atom processor at 1.8GHz from Intel built into the housing, but it is not clear which type it is exactly. There is support for Wi-Fi 802.11ac and there is an HDMI connection to connect to a TV. An Ethernet connection is missing. 8GB is built-in for storage and the amount of RAM is 1GB.

Google started selling the device in late 2014. Last week, at Google’s developer conference I/O, Xiaomi unveiled the Mi Box 3, which has support for 4k and HDR. When the Mi Box should come out and where it will all be for sale, is not completely known at the moment; the only thing that Xiaomi is letting go of is that at least it will be available in the US soon.

The media box has a single USB 2.0 port on the outside, an S/PDIF audio output and a 3.5 mm audio jack. The HDMI port is compatible with the HDMI 2.0a standard and version 2.2 of the HDCP encryption. On the wireless front, the Mi Box can handle WiFi-ac and Bluetooth 4.0. Xiaomi also supplies the Mi Box with a bluetooth remote control that can be used to record voice commands.
