Blizzard will add ‘ranked play’ to Overwatch next month
In an interview on Facebook, chief designer Jeff Kaplan explains why Blizzard’s May 24 online multiplayer shooter Overwatch lacks a player positioning system, or ‘ranked play’. He announced that this is coming ‘next month’.
In the interview published on the social media site, Kaplan makes it clear that there will be an update in mid or late June that will bring ranked play back into play. The mode was in the game, but Blizzard decided not to include it during the official release on May 24, because the system that links players together was not working properly.
For example, less skilled players could have to fight against experienced players. Because this created problems in the balance of the game, Blizzard decided to forgo the release of the system along with the release of the game.
In addition, Blizzard is looking at some other changes, such as the length of a season. It is now one month, but the community found that too short during the open beta. There have been a few betas leading up to Overwatch’s launch. The latter ran until May 10.
