Polaroid introduces UHDTVs with Google Cast support
Polaroid is coming in America with four UHDTVs with support for Google Cast, the protocol behind the Chromecast. The TVs will be released this summer in four sizes, with the smallest having a 43-inch diagonal.
Polaroid says it has worked with Google on the TVs. The devices themselves do not run Android, but there is support for Google Cast, so that apps can be run via a smartphone or tablet. Vizio was the first manufacturer to announce such TVs. These do not come with an operating system themselves, but come with an Android tablet that serves as a remote control.
Polaroid lists few specifications of the TVs on the product page. The TVs have an LCD with a resolution of 3840×2160 pixels, which can show a maximum of 120Hz images. The televisions support the HEVC codec and have an HDMI 2.0 connection. The 43″, 50″, 55″ and 65″ diagonal TVs should be available this summer for prices between $500 and $1,000. A 75″ model will follow at the end of 2016 for $1900.
A 75” model will be available Q4 2016 with an MSRP of $1899.99. – See more at: http://polaroid.com/news/google-cast-smart-tv#sthash.DBvi8zNV.dpuf
The TVs under the Polaroid brand name are not yet sold in the Benelux. So far, only American manufacturers have announced televisions that are not equipped with an operating system, but that do work with Google Cast. It is not yet clear whether such TVs will also come on the market here.
