Microsoft pulls FM radio app from Windows 10 Mobile
Microsoft is pulling the app to listen to FM radio from Windows 10 Mobile. The manufacturer has announced this on Twitter. The application is no longer available in new builds of the operating system.
The FM radio app has recently disappeared from builds in the Fast Ring of the Windows Insider test program, where the latest test builds appear. On Twitter, Microsoft confirmed that it is not a bug, but a deliberate removal of the application, MSPowerUser noted.
The feature will not disappear from smartphones and Microsoft emphasizes that third-party apps for using the FM radio will continue to function. However, these apps are not immediately installed on the phone and often contain advertisements as a revenue model for the developer of those apps.
The FM radio is optional in devices with Windows 10 Mobile, according to the list of hardware requirements that Microsoft has online. In previous versions of Windows Phone, Microsoft made FM radio mandatory. The fm radio allows users to listen to regular radio without using data, something that is especially useful for people with limited data bundles or in case of network failures, such as with calamities.
