Dell has changed its name to ‘Dell Technologies’. Most of the company, including EMC, VMware, Pivotal, SecureWorks, RSA and Virtustream are covered. Only the PC branch will continue to operate under the Dell name and the enterprise activities will be grouped under Dell EMC.

The name change to Dell Technologies should reflect the company’s broad product and services portfolio, following its acquisition of EMC last year. The name includes Dell and EMC’s enterprise infrastructure business units, as well as VMware, SecureWorks, Pivotal, Virtustream, and RSA.

“Dell” itself will become a “sub-name” for the consumer and business markets of PCs and other client products after the change. Laptops, desktops, tablets, monitors and products of the company will therefore continue to exist under the name Dell. In addition, the enterprise branch will have its own name: Dell EMC.

Dell’s owner and founder announced the name change just before the company’s 32nd birthday. He emphasized combining as many products and services as possible where it makes sense, including in internet storage, security, virtualization and internet-of-things. The acquisition of EMC was one of the largest in the tech industry at $67 billion; it still has to be approved by the shareholders of EMC and competition authorities, which is expected to happen this year.
