Opera integrates free vpn in developer version browser

Opera announces that the company is adding a free VPN service to its browser. This is standard and has no data limit. With this, the company wants to better protect the privacy of its users.

The VPN function is currently only available in the developer version of the browser and is easy to enable. The service is operated by the SurfEasy company, which has been part of the Opera family since March 2015. By using a VPN, internet traffic between the browser and the VPN server is encrypted by an encrypted tunnel, making it difficult to intercept, for example, if a user is connected to a public hotspot. Also, the IP address of the user changes with a VPN, which leads to more anonymity.

In addition, it is possible to choose different locations from which to connect to the internet. This allows geo-blocking to be circumvented, for example. At the moment, for example, the Opera VPN is still working to watch Netflix content from other countries. The current developer version only offers three locations for users to choose from, namely Germany, USA and Canada. More should be added in the future.

Normally, users have to pay for a VPN service, for example to download without restrictions. In the case of Opera, it is free to use, but users should be aware that Internet traffic goes through SurfEasy’s servers. The company claims to keep no log files, so that it would not be possible to find out afterwards which websites a user visited while using the VPN.

Opera also recently introduced a built-in ad blocker in its browser.
