YouTuber plays Horizon Zero Dawn on GeForce GT 710 in 72p
No, that’s not a typo: to make Horizon Zero Dawn somewhat playable on a GT 710, at least in terms of framerate, YouTuber zWORMz Gaming had to lower the rendering resolution of Horizon Zero Dawn on the PC to 128×72 pixels.
“I’m pretty sure this is the render scale option,” says zWORMz before going from 144 pixels in height to 72 pixels in the options menu. If you look at the images, you immediately see why: at 144 pixels, the text on the screen is already unreadable, which becomes much worse at 72 pixels. The option is the very lowest that the game supports. “It looks like a Gameboy Advance game, but it honestly looks pretty good,” says zWORMz. He also finds it ‘quite playable’; he even manages to make some kills.
To make the game playable, the extremely low resolution is necessary. Even with this setting, the game runs at an average fps of 19 and a 1% low of 14 fps. However, compared to the average of about 3fps on 1080p Ultra, the game is doing really well.
All in all, the map doesn’t seem particularly suited to the game. Not surprisingly, at the time of its release it was already seen as a suitable part for an HTPC and not for a gaming PC. The graphics card was announced in early 2016, has 192 CUDA cores running at 954MHz and standard 2GB GDDR5 memory. According to Userbenchmark, the GTX 1060 6GB, the most popular card among Steam users, is an overwhelming 1577 percent faster than the GT 710.
