Niantic adds €5 monthly subscription to Ingress
Niantic, the maker of Pokémon Go, is adding an optional monthly subscription to its AR game Ingress. Players get a number of extras for 5 euros per month, including storage space for items and a monthly budget of in-game coins.
Subscribers get 2500 CMU monthly to spend on in-game items. Normally, that amount of the in-game coins costs 2 euros. The subscription also offers an extension of 500 items for the inventory and a monthly Loadout Kit with items.
Niantic calls the subscription CORE, which stands for Community, Offers, Recognition and Expansion. Players can purchase the paid subscription as an in-game purchase on Android and iOS. It is the first time that Niantic provides one of its games with a subscription.
Ingress has been around since 2013 and is the predecessor of Pokémon Go. It is not known whether the developer also has plans for a subscription in that game. Ingress is much less popular than Pokémon Go. The latest version, Ingress Prime, is on more than 10 million devices, according to the Google Play Store. With Pokémon Go, that’s more than 100 million devices.
