A much-discussed aspect of Windows 10 is the amount of information sent to Microsoft. This is often useful, because many matters can be handled better that way. But not everything is equally useful, so there are certainly concerns about privacy. Fortunately, many of these ‘phone home’ options can be turned off, although not all of them are easy to find.

O&O Software, known for its defragmenter, among other things, has made a free tool available that can easily be used to turn many of these options on or off. In addition, it offers the option to create a system restore point beforehand. ShutUp10 is just over 200kB in size and does not need to be installed to do its job. The following changes and improvements have been made in this release:

  • Advertizements on the lock screen can be deactivated
  • Windows Spotlight can be deactivated
  • Don’t display the last user on the lock screen
  • Hide identification of the logged-in user on the lock screen

• False file name in French version corrected
• Minor bug fixes
