TU/e wins with football and ‘help at home’ during EC RoboCup
The football robots of the TU Eindhoven have won the RoboCup European Open 2016. In addition, the university managed to win the @Home League part with its care robot. The event in Eindhoven attracted 15,000 visitors.
The TU/e soccer robots managed to win the final against Cambada’s Portuguese opponents by scoring twice in the second half, without conceding a goal. “After the break, we started shooting at goal earlier, creating opportunities and free kicks,” says team coach Lotte de Koning. The robots played in the Middle Size League, the most important competition, with autonomously playing, 80 centimeters high robots. Last year July the Eindhoven soccer robots lost to a Chinese team.
In addition, TU/e won with Amigo, a care robot. According to the university, this ‘home help’ won the @Home League ‘by a distance’. Amigo thus managed to take revenge for the dramatic final during the World Cup last year. During the EU RoboCup, the care robot defeated the number 1 and 3 of the World Cup and, according to team captain Janno Lunenburg, this lays a good foundation for the World Cup 2016. At the @Home League, robots have to perform care tasks such as serving and serving.
The event in Evoluon in Eindhoven attracted fifteen thousand visitors. The final of the football match was watched by two thousand spectators.
