Asus has announced a motherboard based on the AMD 970+SB950 chipset that supports SLI setups with Nvidia cards. The 970 Pro Gaming/Aura contains LED lighting that allows users to apply different types of effects.

The motherboard includes an AM3+ socket for AMD’s FX, Phenom II, Athlon II, and Sempron 100 processors. The chipset is AMD’s 970, but the board contains a certificate for Nvidia’s sli, which allows up to four GPUs of the cards of the green camp to be used. Nvidia announced in 2011 that it would issue sli certificates for AMD chipset, but since then few manufacturers have made use of this for AMD 970 chipsets.

The motherboard can hold up to 32GB of ddr3 2133MHz memory, and there are two PCI-E 2.0 x16 and two PCI-E 2.0 x1 slots. In addition, there are six SATA 600 ports and an SSD with m2 form factor can be used. Since there are two PCI-e slots present, dual GPU cards will have to be used to reach the maximum number of GPUs. Of course, AMD’s CrossFireX support is also present, also with support for up to four GPUs.

According to Asus, the motherboard should further distinguish itself with its lighting, which has been given the name Aura by the manufacturer. With software, the user can adjust the color of the LED lighting, but also add effects such as a glow effect, changing colors and pulsing to the beat of the music. The lighting can also be set so that it changes based on the temperature of the processor.
