Destiny 2 will no longer be released in September 2016

Destiny 2 will no longer be released in September 2016. That date was mentioned in leaked roadmaps and contracts. Executives at developer Bungie are said to have canceled the planned date last week. There is no replacement date for the developer to target.

The statement is made by anonymous sources from gaming news site Kotaku, who are said to be familiar with the state of affairs at Bungie. The date was known from, among other things, the contract between developer Bungie and publisher Activision. The ten-year plan in the contract had not been accurate for some time; the game already missed its first planned release date in 2013 and finally didn’t hit the market until 2014. Nevertheless, it would appear from the statements of the Kotaku sources that the planned release date of Destiny 2 in the fall of 2016 has simply remained until last week.

In order to provide players of the game with a regular supply of new content, the live team at Bungie has been asked to fill the coming year with content updates. That team is responsible for the minor updates in between new Destiny games and major DLC packs. An example of the live team’s work is the Valentine’s Day event called Crimson Days. In addition, the team is working on a larger content update that should be released in the coming months. The developer has not yet officially announced any further plans. Bungie itself declined to comment.
