Continuum for Windows 10 Mobile supports soc for midrange smartphones
Microsoft makes it clear that Continuum supports Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 617. This means that midrange smartphones can also be given the function of turning the smartphone into a desktop with a screen, keyboard and mouse.
Microsoft recently updated Continuum’s support page and now lists the MSM8952 as the supported soc for the feature. Previously, two processors were mentioned, namely the Snapdragon 808 from the Lumia 950 and the Snapdragon 810 from the Lumia 950 XL. The Snapdragon 617 is a soc for midrange smartphones and first appeared last year in the HTC One A9, an Android device.
The change will allow cheaper smartphones to support Continuum in the future. There are so far three smartphones that have the feature. In addition to the Lumia 950 and 950 XL, this is the Acer Liquid Jade Primo. GSMArena reports that Microsoft accidentally named a fourth device in a video description, the Lumia Phone X. Nothing is known about that phone. Continuum is a system to give the smartphone desktop functionality wirelessly or via a dock with cables.
