BBC brings Robot Wars back to TV
The BBC has announced that it is reviving the Robot Wars TV series. The original show ran from 1998 to 2004, after which no new episodes were made. Now the BBC has announced that it has ordered the production of six one-hour episodes.
The reboot of the show gets a new formula with more robots and more battles than the old seasons. The TV show Robot Wars was no longer produced after 2004, but the battles continued as part of live shows, among other things. The new series is being commissioned by BBC Two and is being developed by Mentorn Media Scotland, which was also part of the original show, and SJP Media. It is not yet known who will be the presenters of the new show.
According to the BBC, viewers will see many new innovative robots, mainly thanks to the major technological advances that have taken place over the past decade. The show is filmed in a purpose-built arena in Glasgow.
The show revolved around homemade robots often equipped with circular saws, grapples, hammers and flamethrowers. These robots were controlled by their owners who tried to take out the opponent’s robots in the cage. The cage battles involved one-on-one and battle royale style battles. During these battles, the drivers also had to watch out for the iconic Robot Wars house robots. These were returning robots such as Dead Metal, Matilda and Sir Killalot, who had a permanent place in the cage.
