Robery Kyncl, chief business officer at Youtube, announces that the video site will soon support HDR content playback. Youtube joins Amazon and Netflix, which have been supporting this technique for some time.

Kyncl made the announcement during a discussion at CES in Las Vegas, where he talked about 360-degree video support. He did this together with the CEOs of GoPro and VRSE. In addition, he dropped in between that Youtube will soon also have HDR support.

HDR, or high dynamic range, ensures that more contrast is created between dark and light parts of the screen. Light parts are displayed brightly without loss of detail in the dark parts. Only TVs with HDR support can display the large dynamic range, so it is not possible to view this type of content via Youtube or other providers on all devices.
