EVGA shows its first gaming laptop with overclockable Core i7
EVGA presented its first gaming laptop at CES. Aimed at gamers, the EVGA SC17 features a UHD display and a Core i7 with unlocked multiplier for easy overclocking. The video card is a GTX 980M.
The SC17 is sober and completely black, without further lighting, except for the EVGA logo on the cover and the backlighting of the keyboard. The 17.3 “screen can display 3840×2160 pixels and is equipped with 16GB DDR4, while in addition there is 2TB of HDD storage and 256GB SSD storage. Furthermore, on the right side are a USB 3.1-c connection and two USB 3.0 ports. ports are present, on the left are hdmi and two mini display ports and the model also supports bluetooth 4.2.
The processor is the Core i7-6820HK. This quad-core comes with an unlocked multiplier, just like the Extreme Edition processors for laptops in the past. The mobile video card is the Nvidia GeForce GTX 980M. EVGA has therefore not chosen the most powerful laptop card: Nvidia is now also making the desktop GPU of the GTX 980 available for laptops.
The 17.3″ laptop is on the thick side at 2.65 cm and also feels heavy, which is not unusual for gaming laptops, but EVGA does not distinguish itself on this point. There are no precise details, since the manufacturer SC17 only showed up at the Intel booth at CES in Las Vegas, the price is still unknown.
