WhatsApp gets option to share data with Facebook

WhatsApp will have an option to share data with Facebook, according to a test version of the Android app that WhatsApp itself has put online. Sharing data with Facebook is optional and is intended to improve ‘Facebook experiences’.

It is unknown what data users share with Facebook if they check the option, AndroidWorld reports. The option is in the source file with the text about the new conditions. Those conditions would be necessary because of functions such as WhatsApp calling, a service that the chat app added last year.

The fact that the text is in the test version that WhatsApp has put on its own site does not mean that the option will be available soon. Usually the release of features from the test versions follows a few weeks to months later, but sometimes it takes longer. Facebook took over WhatsApp a few years ago, making data sharing an obvious choice.

In addition to the new option to share data, there will be a way to check the encryption of a chat via a QR code, DroidApp reports. This would appear from the texts that WhatsApp distributes to be translated. When that feature will come is also unknown.
