Pictures show prototype of canceled smartwatch Nokia

Images have appeared of the smartwatch that the Finnish manufacturer Nokia was developing. The prototype has a square screen and runs on a processor from STMicroelectronics. The smartwatch never came out.

It is unknown what features Nokia had in mind for the smartwatch. A post on Weibo only shows the images, showing the watch in operation. The imprint of the prototype corresponds to the way in which Nokia designated prototypes and it therefore seems that it is an authentic test sample.

According to the diagnostic screen, the watch has a touchscreen, light sensor and nor memory. According to a photo of the inside, the processor is a STMicroelectronics processor type STM32F427, with a Cortex M4 processor made at 90nm at 180MHz. That processor is intended for devices that want to last a long time with a small battery, while little computing power is required.

A few years ago there were rumors about a smartwatch from Nokia, which would have been codenamed Moonraker. Microsoft canceled that project after acquiring the hardware branch of the Finnish manufacturer. That would have happened in 2014. Concept images of the smartwatch came released earlier via twitterer EvLeaks, but there were no real photos yet.
