A group of activists who say they focus on the digital fight against IS has taken the BBC websites offline on New Year’s Eve. They did this with a ddos attack, which is said to be intended to test its capabilities.

The BBC itself reports this on the basis of a statement released by the group, which calls itself New World Hacking. Although the group caused the BBC websites to be unavailable for a few hours due to their DDOs attack, the members say they are mainly engaged in the fight against IS. They want to take IS websites offline with their available server park, and the DDOs attack against the BBC was only intended to see how strong the attack capabilities of the group are.

According to information from New World Hacking, the BBC’s servers were attacked by a ddos that triggered an information flow of 600Gbit/s. The collective, whose members are mainly located in the United States, claims to have used two nodes and a number of dedicated servers for the attack.

New World Hacking is usually concerned with attacking IS-affiliated websites. The organisation reports several Ddos attacks on its Twitter account, also confirming that it has taken the BBC’s websites offline as a test. Earlier, the loose hacker collective Anonymous already announced that it would target the terrorist organization.
