Download Driver For ATi Linux Drivers 8.8.25

ATI has released new drivers for the Linux platform. The version number is at 8.8.25 and they can be found at this one page. The most striking innovation is that the drivers are now also suitable for X.org version 6.8 for the first time. The full release notes can be here can be found, but this is in short what has changed:

New Features

• Drivers for X.org 6.8 are now provided
• x86_64 drivers now available for XFree86 4.3 and X.org 6.8

Issues Resolved

• Second head in Dual Head system is no longer corrupt during login screen
• Display corruption is no longer seen when switching between X-Windows and the Linux text console, and back to X-Windows
• Video playback in Dual Head mode no longer results in an error message being displayed, or the player failing to start
• PCI-Express systems no longer hang after running 3D Applications for long periods
• 3D Applications no longer hang on RHEL 3.0 with 1GB or more memory installed
• XVideo overlay is once again available in Dual Head Mode
• A “drm.h: No such file or directory” error message no longer occurs when compiling the fglrx kernel module
• Stopping and restarting the X server no longer results in memory leaks or hangs on PCI-Express systems

Known Issues

• TV Display is Corrupt After Switching Resolutions
• Attempting to resume from system suspension results in the system failing to respond
• Enabling Quad Buffer Stereo results in 2D graphics corruption under XFree86
• Running two X servers simultaneously results in the system failing to respond
• A blank screen may appear momentarily when X starts to load. An error message (or similar) may also appear on the text console
• Moving a window over top of a 3D window may result in the contents of the window becoming corrupted

Notes:

• The drivers below support English only
• The display driver requires POSIX shared memory to be enabled on the system
• Kernel Source package is no longer required if Kernel Header package is installed
