Google withdraws Chromebook update that causes login problems
Google released and withdrew ChromeOS 91.0.4772.165 after several users were unable to sign in to their devices. Affected users provide tips on reddit that may help resolve the issues.
Some users who have ChromeOS 91.0.4772.165 installed on their Chromebook say they can no longer sign in to their account and their password is no longer recognized. Various users report this problem on reddit and a user indicates in a news tip that he also experiences this. Also, users report that their Chromebook goes into a bootloop after the update.
The update in question was released as a stable version of ChromeOS, but has since been withdrawn by Google, the affected Reddit users have concluded. A Reddit post outlines four scenarios of possible fixes for Chromebook users who have deployed or downloaded the update.
If users have the appropriate version installed and are experiencing problems, it is recommended to restore the Chromebook to factory settings . If that doesn’t work, a complete wipe of the device can help, according to the users. This has to be done from Dev Mode and users will lose all local files on the Chromebook.
Google has not yet responded to the issues and has not yet released a replacement update. A possible solution would be to install an update with fix from Guest mode, but whether that works remains to be seen.
