Biostar launches HyperOC for overclocking non-K Skylake CPUs
Biostar is making HyperOC available through a BIOS update for its Z170 motherboards. This can make non-K Skylake processors up to about 35 percent faster. The update would be possible with i3, i5 and i7 processors.
Biostar follows on from ASRock, which already came with such an update before. According to Biostar, the bios update should provide a speed increase of 35 percent and this also allows users without an unlocked multiplier to overclock their cpu. However, nothing is said about any disadvantages of overclocking.
For example, increasing the bclk would ensure that the integrated GPU of the processor is disabled and that certain energy-saving techniques no longer work. Similar updates would also be available for sixteen MSI motherboards. These can be found on the HWBot forum. It is cautioned that use will void the warranty until official statements from MSI or Intel have been issued.
