Microsoft will show end-of-life notification in old versions of Internet Explorer
As of January 12, 2016, Microsoft will stop supporting older versions of Internet Explorer. Users who then work with an unsupported version will see an end-of-life notification that should encourage an upgrade.
The arrival of the end-of-life notification is apparent from a listing on Microsoft’s support website. Windows 7 systems and computers running Windows Server 2008 in combination with IE8, IE9 or IE10 will receive an update on January 12 that adds the notification.
It is not yet known how Microsoft will display the notification. It is likely that users of the old browsers will see a pop-up with instructions on how to upgrade Internet Explorer to version 11. Microsoft also provides instructions on how to disable the notification, which is possible by making a change in the registry. Environments that have not yet migrated to Internet Explorer 11 or another browser can take advantage of this
Microsoft announced in August 2014 that support for older versions of Internet Explorer will end in early 2016. There will be no more security updates from January 12.
