Rumor: Samsung puts USB-C port, micro-SD slot and iris scanner in Galaxy S7
According to sources from business newspaper The Wall Street Journal, Samsung puts a USB-c port, micro-SD slot and iris scanner in variants of the Galaxy S7. According to the business newspaper, the manufacturer will present the device at the end of February.
In addition, the Galaxy S7 will have a pressure-sensitive touchscreen, as Apple has put in its iPhone 6s series with 3D Touch, the business newspaper says. It is unknown what features the South Korean manufacturer has in mind for such a screen.
The Wall Street Journal specifically talks about an iris scanner, but refers to ZTE, which has used a technology in its Grand S3 to use the pattern of veins in the eye for authentication. An iris scanner is included in the Lumia 950 and 950 XL from Microsoft. Samsung has been using fingerprint scanners on its high-end devices for some time now.
The camera will no longer protrude in the S7 and should especially do well in situations with less light. The USB-c port, which can already be found on various devices such as the recent Nexus devices and Lumias, should provide the battery with enough power within thirty minutes to get through a whole day.
According to previous rumors, there will be four variants of the S7, namely a regular version, a curved Edge version, a larger Plus version and a larger, curved Edge Plus version. The announcement was to take place at the Mobile World Congress telecom show, which starts on Monday, February 22 in Barcelona. The device should be on the market in March, the newspaper claims.
There have been rumors for months about the successor to the Galaxy S6. Samsung has already announced some components that may come in the device, such as a Britecell camera with rwb format and the Exynos 8890-soc with self-designed cores. Samsung would also use Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 820 in addition to its own Exynos.
