From Wednesday, Google offers a ‘family subscription’ to Play Music and YouTube Red for 15 euros per month. In addition, up to six people can get a subscription to both services, just as is possible with Apple Music.

For the time being, the ‘family subscription’ only applies to customers in six countries, including Germany and France. Google says that other countries will follow soon, but the Benelux is not among the first six. With the family plan, customers get access to both unlimited music streaming with Play Music and YouTube Red, the video site’s service that removes ads and gives access to videos only viewable with that plan.

Google announced the move in September, but will start offering the subscription on Wednesday. This is followed by the search giant Apple, which also offers a family subscription for the same amount. The best-known music streaming service, Spotify, charges five dollars or euros per month extra per family member. The monthly amount can therefore rise to 30 euros per month. Spotify currently has an offer running, whereby customers pay a total of ten euros per month for a maximum of five users for three months.

The family subscription can only be taken out from an Android device. Why Google imposed this restriction is unknown.
