Sony has introduced PlayStation Messages on iOS and Android. Sony hopes this will make communication between friends on the PlayStation Network easier and faster. The app thus takes over some of the tasks of the original Playstation App.

Sony introduced the app on its blog, along with the app’s appearance in the App Store and Play Store. With this, PlayStation Messages takes over the communication tasks of the original PlayStation App. Many users complained because of the problems the original app had with loading messages and connecting to the server.

The appearance of PlayStation Messages is similar to that of other applications such as Facebook Messenger and WhatsApp. The friends list shows the PSN contacts, who are online and what they are playing. Furthermore, the app allows the user to send messages and upload and share files. The original Playstation App retains the other tasks that the application had, such as download management and second screen functionality for some games.
