Porsche to release Mission E car with fast charging system within five years
Porsche has announced that it will start production of the Mission E electric car, with the vehicle expected to be available before the end of the decade. The Mission E is equipped with a fast charging system that can charge the battery to 80 percent in 15 minutes.
According to the luxury car manufacturer, the Mission E, the company’s very first electric car, will be produced in Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen, where its headquarters are also located. A thousand new jobs will be created, which should ultimately result in consumers being able to buy the Mission E before the end of this decade, for an otherwise undisclosed price. For the production, Porsche puts an amount of 700 million euros in its production plant in Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen.
The Mission E was previously showcased at an auto show in Frankfurt, but Porsche had not yet announced whether the vehicle would actually go into production. The sports car stands out mainly because of its power source and battery. According to the manufacturer, the engine accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in about 3.5 seconds, and the battery can last about 500 kilometers on a charge.
Porsche has developed a fast charging system for the Mission E that should give the car a lot of battery capacity quickly. For example, 80 percent of the battery can be charged in 15 minutes. One of the disadvantages of electric cars is that charging the battery takes a lot of time, something that Porsche wants to combat with the charging system it has designed itself.
With its sports car, Porsche seems to become a competitor for Tesla, which is doing good business in the electric car market with the popular and fast Model S. The latter has recently released a new model with the Model X.
