Nvidia lowers Shield Tablet price to 200 euros
Nvidia re-released its Shield Tablet on Tuesday under the name Shield Tablet K1. The manufacturer has lowered the suggested retail price from 299.99 to 199.99 euros. The company is only releasing one version of the device.
The relaunch only applies to the 16GB version of the Shield K1 with support for Wi-Fi connections. The 32GB version with 4G support is no longer on the market. The accessories, such as the cover, the stylus and the controller, remain available separately. Furthermore, Nvidia promises to upgrade the tablet to Android 6.0 sometime in the coming months.
The re-release follows a recall for the tablet in late July. Devices with a battery with type number Y01 turned out to be a fire hazard and had to be exchanged. After that, the Shield Tablet remained silent and Nvidia appeared to have withdrawn it from sale, but on Tuesday the device reappeared with the lower price. The tablet is already listed in the Pricewatch with the price of 199.99 euros.
Nvidia announced the Shield Tablet a year and a half ago. The device has an 8″ IPS touchscreen with a resolution of 1920×1200 pixels. The soc is the Tegra K1 quadcore, which is clocked at 2.2GHz and contains a Kepler GPU with 192 cores. Furthermore, there is 2GB of RAM and can the 16GB storage memory can be expanded thanks to a micro-SD card reader.The tablet has a micro-HDmi and a micro-USB connection, a 5-megapixel camera and two speakers on the front.
