Pixmania has financial problems
Pixmania has informed its staff of financial difficulties and the possibility of a postponement of payment being requested. The company is re-organizing and reportedly targeting more of a third-party marketplace.
The owner of Pixmania, the German Mutares AG, confirms to Channelpartner that the staff has been informed of the bad financial situation. In addition, the employees would have been informed about the possibility of a so-called procédure de sauvegarde. This is a payment deferral procedure that gives the company six months for a reorganization.
Mutares’ announcement follows reports in the French media, such as 20minutes, that such a procedure has already been requested. Pixmania employs 430 people, including 320 French. A French source reportedly informed the media about the situation.
Pixmania will try to significantly reduce storage and delivery costs and profile itself more as a ‘marketplace’ for sellers, according to the reports. The web store was founded in 2000 and has struggled with declining turnover in recent years due to increased competition. Pixmania’s physical stores had to close in 2013. In 2014, the company came into the hands of the German Mutares, who tried to turn the tide. So far this does not seem to have the desired effect.
