Asus talks to Microsoft about developing augmented reality glasses
Asus is considering bringing augmented reality glasses to the market, and is therefore in talks with Microsoft. It has not yet been decided exactly what any glasses will look like, but the HoloLens that Microsoft has already announced will probably be looked at.
Whether augmented reality glasses will eventually come on the market depends on the conversations that are currently being held within Asus. At the same time, consultations are underway with Microsoft, which will probably have to take care of the software side of the Asus glasses: the company from Redmond has already announced such a product for augmented reality with the HoloLens.
Although no final decisions have been made yet, the release of the information indicates that Asus has concrete plans to release augmented reality glasses sometime in the future: CEO Jonney Shih and Microsoft CEO Terry Myerson made the plans. jointly known in a conversation with Cnet.
Microsoft announced its HoloLens glasses early this year. The glasses project holograms and superimpose them on reality. Any glasses from Asus must therefore have a comparable functionality; the company is still discussing how the augmented reality accessory should be ‘designed’.
A developer version of Microsoft’s HoloLens should be available starting next year, for a price of about $3,000. It is not yet known when a consumer version of the HoloLens will be released, and Myerson also declined to provide further information in the conversation with Cnet.
